There's No Cage Like Home

SIR: Like Bill Hutchinson (Letters, February 21), I detest the confinement of birds in cages. By far the most distressing sight for me is the white sulphur-crested cockatoo locked in a small cage with barely enough space to hop from one perch to another. They seem to be considered a tourist"attraction" in many rural centres and in some plant nurseries.
I realise these birds are considered a pest by some people, but surely they don't deserve this miserable life sentence.
It would be interesting to hear if the RSPCA has an opinion on the imprisonment of birds, especially large varieties, and whether they can do anything to stop this abhorrent practice.
