DAPA Theatre, which had a hit in the Civic Theatre this year with the musical Oliver!, is returning to the venue in May with another popular, large-scale Broadway musical.

La Cage Aux Folles, with songs by Jerry Herman (Mame, Hello Dolly) ran for more than five years in its first New York season and spawned the hit song I Am What I Am.

The story, based on a non-musical French film of the same name that was remade as The Bird Cage (with Robin Williams) tells of the consternation that is caused when the son of a gay male couple who operate a nightclub announces that he is marrying the daughter of a morals crusader. And it is a show for all the family. DAPA will hold auditions for La Cage Aux Folles on Sunday from 10am at the DAPA Theatre, 145 Beaumont Street, Hamilton. Ring 4962 3270 to book an audition time or to get more info.

Wayne Rogers will direct the show, with David Fitzgerald as musical director.
