BIRD FLIES THE COOP

August 2001 A promising Australian Schoolboys representative and a member of Newcastle's Jersey Flegg side, Bird signs to play with Cronulla.

BARE BIRD

November 2001 As an 18-year-old, Bird's wild streak - literally - comes out when he is stripped of two sporting awards after a dare went wrong at his high school. Bird and three classmates streak through the Rutherford Technology High grounds wearing nothing but balaclavas.

BIRD BRAIN

April 2004 Suspended for 10 matches after kneeing South Sydney winger Shane Marteene in the head. The Sharks later fine him $15,000.

BIRD IN A BINGLE

March 2004 Becomes embroiled in a text messaging controversy involving the face of Tourism Australia and now Michael Clarke's fiancee, Lara Bingle. Bird is alleged to have sent crude messages to Bingle.

BIRD ON FIRE

July 2007 Bird is man of the match in just his second Origin encounter, helping the Blues to victory in the final match of the season. Later voted best on ground in the Test against New Zealand and in Origin I this year.

BIRD CAGE

August 2008 Involved in an altercation with a cage fighter named Danyan at Sting Bar at Cronulla. Bird is attempting to protect former teammate Nick Youngquest, who had been attacked by Danyan.

JAIL BIRD

August 2008 Spends a night in jail and is stood down by his club after being charged with assaulting girlfriend Katie Milligan. The court is told of another altercation with Milligan, a 24-year-old he met in Las Vegas last year, and another incident involving a woman in January.
